Yahoo! Domains

Yahoo! Domains

Yahoo! Domains, provides a place for individuals and organizations to register Internet web addresses, also known as domain names. You must be a Yahoo! registered user to order services through Yahoo! Domains. We also require that you set up a Yahoo! Wallet in order to use Yahoo! Domains so we can automatically bill your credit card for these services.

Information Collection and Use Practices

In addition to registration information, Yahoo! Domains asks for other personal information such as the name, address, telephone number, and email address of the registrant and administrator. This information is transmitted to Internet Names Worldwide (a division of Melbourne IT Limited), or "INWW," for the purpose of registering your web address (domain name).
By registering a web address, the personal information that you indicate as registrant and administrative contact will be made publicly available by INWW as required by the Internet's governing organization, ICANN.
On the Yahoo! Domains Order Form, you have the option of receiving email announcements from Yahoo! Domains. If you choose to receive these announcements, they will be sent to the email address that you specify within your Yahoo! Wallet.
We also offer a feedback form that allows you to send us comments and suggestions regarding Yahoo! Domains. This form asks for your name and email address, but only your email address is required. Your email address may be used to contact you regarding the feedback that you have provided to us, but will not be used for any marketing purposes.

Information Sharing and Disclosure Practices

Yahoo! shares your personal information with Internet Names Worldwide (a division of Melbourne IT Limited), or "INWW," in order to process your domain registration request and to maintain your account.

Practices Regarding Your Ability to Update or Delete Information

You can update or delete your billing information by accessing your Yahoo! Wallet.
You can edit the contact information associated with your domain name by accessing your Web Console.

Other

When you use Yahoo! Domains, you are subject to the Yahoo! Domains Service Agreement, Domain Name Registration Agreement, and the Yahoo! Terms of Service.
Please see Yahoo! Domains Help if you have questions about this service.

Review of the Yahoo Web Hosting Control Panel

Yahoo web hosting provides its own unique control panel. As we mentioned in an earlier article, the most common control panel for most web hosts in the well known and respected cPanel. While cPanel offers everything you will need in your control panel, Yahoo Small Business created their own simplified control panel.
Logging into your Yahoo small business account, you will see that their web hosting account is much more simpler than cPanel or other various forms of control panels. The first thing you’ll notice is the simple layout. There 7 tabs which allow you to carry out the most common tasks you may need in your web hosting. The first tab, the “home” tab, allows you to view your daily site traffic. This is handy as it allows you to view how many people each day, week, or month are visiting your website. On the bottom of the screen, there is also a keyword option where you type in a search engine keyword and Yahoo will tell you how well you are ranking for it. I suppose this can be handy for most non-technological users.
The second tab, the “email” tab, allows you to set up all of your email accounts. As of the time of this writing, Yahoo small business webhosting allows you to have upto 1000 email accounts.  The next tab, “create and update” gives you multiple options you may need to use for your web hosting. For example, on this tab, you can use their file management tools to upload files to your site, or easily install a prebuilt site from a yahoo template. These can be somewhat useful, though I would prefer using filezilla or some other FTP to manage the files on the server.
The “management” tab allows you to use other tools on your webhosting account. It also provides valuable info for your ftp. This is the info you would use to connect your site to your FTP, like FileZilla. You can also change your yahoo small business service plan on this page.
The promote tab gives you useful information about ranking on search engines. Its always good to follow their advice as it will help people find your website more easily by searching on a search engine, such as Bing or Google.  The “help” tab is also very useful and can provide a lot of helpful information if you are not sure how to do a certain task in your web hosting control panel. The “index” tab provides more of a glossary type documentation on how to do pretty much any web hosting related task.
That’s pretty much the Yahoo Small Business Web Hosting control panel in a nutshell. Its very simplified and great for doing many simple things in your web hosting control panel. Though its fairly straight forward and easy to understand, I do wish Yahoo would switch to the preferred cPanel control panel that is a little better.

Yahoo Web Hosting Review : smallbusiness.yahoo.com

Overview:
Yahoo web hosting are probably the biggest brand in the hosting world (Only because Google is not involved in web hosting)and this is a big attraction to hosting newcomers as they have a well known name, but this doesn't always mean you will get the best service or the best value for money. Yahoo are better known for their search engine technology and email accounts but they also offer small business web hosting solutions too.
Features:
Yahoo offers a very extensive website building facility which includes one-click contact forms and advanced photo galleries. A bonus of going with Yahoo is that they give all their hosting customers bonus PPC advertising credits. Yahoo hosting plans now come with unlimited transfer and space as they have followed their competition to avoid being left behind.
Summary:
As you would expect Yahoo does offer a great web hosting solution, and it's hard to fault their control panel and reliability. Overall you are paying a premium price for Yahoo and we think this is largely due to their brand rather than the advanced features, but with that being said we still recommend yahoo as a top web host, just value for money lets them

Yahoo! Web Hosting

Yahoo Web Hosting is a great option for small businesses with no experience in web coding or site design. The web hosting service’s functionality and tools are geared towards beginners, including a simplified control panel and site builder that help you create a website in three easy steps. While its hosting packages are hardly noteworthy, Yahoo Web Hosting shines when it comes to site creation tools.

Yahoo’s three web hosting packages provide nothing we haven’t seen before; they each come with an allotted amount of disk space, data transfer and email addresses. Unlimited hosting is only available under the premier plan, with unlimited disk space and bandwidth. Each plan also comes with free domain registration or transfer, which is pretty standard among web hosting services.

Yahoo’s standout feature is its easy-to-use control panel and integrated site builder for creating websites. The builder is intuitive and walks you step-by-step through the site creation process with three easy steps: Pick Your Look, Personalize and Publish. You can choose from a variety of engaging templates. However, the builder still offers advanced features like Perl, PHP and MySQP support. It works with FrontPage and accepts full HTML content from programs like Dreamweaver. It is also compatible with WordPress, MoveableType and PhpBB Bulletin and supports most media types including audio and video files.

Other than its stellar site creation tools, the web hosting service doesn’t provide much else. It lacks most of the advanced features we sought, including custom cron jobs, customizable error pages, a file manager and comprehensive server access. Furthermore, if you want to publish an eCommerce site, Yahoo provides a shared SSL certificate, but you’ll have to pay for third-party shopping cart software.

When it comes to email functionality, this web hosting service proves mediocre. Depending on the hosting package you select, you’ll either get 250, 500 or 1000 email accounts. Most of the other web hosting services we reviewed provide unlimited email accounts. The service also provides spam and virus protection and unlimited storage. You can access these features through a web-based interface or through a POP3 type email account such as Outlook or Eudora.

What Yahoo Web Hosting lacks in features and functionality, it makes up for with comprehensive help and support, something we’d expect from a company as large and well-known as Yahoo. Support via telephone is available 24/7, and you can find additional help through a myriad of online resources including FAQs, tutorials and a searchable knowledgebase. The only thing lacking that we would have liked to see is live chat, a convenient option that would allow users to contact the company online for immediate assistance

Summary

Advanced users will likely be bored with the basic functionality of Yahoo Web Hosting, and its hosting packages sorely lack in comparison to our top-ranked web hosting services. However, if you don’t have tons of coding experience and want a web hosting service supplemented with rich help and support, Yahoo Web Hosting may be for you.

What are Yahoo Domain Names ?

Yahoo domain names refer to registered addresses for websites. This can include a .net, .com or other extension. But it also includes the name of the site itself, followed by the chosen extension.

Working with Yahoo domain names has been said to be more dependable since the company has been in business for a very long time providing services such as search engine, email and news information. Consumers often opt for a bigger, more well-known name such as Yahoo domain names because of the fact that the company is not likely to be going out of business when the time to renew domain registration rolls around.

Domain Names: The Basics

One question that is often wondered is, “Why does Yahoo domain names need to register my web address? Why can’t I just have it because I came up with it?” This question has a valid answer.

The reason there is a cost or charge to set up Yahoo domain names, instead of original, unique website names being free is as follows. Imagine if domain registration were free. Now imagine someone out there decided to arbitrarily register and reserve every possible name for a site, and refused to let go of the registrations until someone paid them an exorbitant amount of money. That would be a travesty.

Companies like Yahoo domain names (known as “registrars”) are preventing something unreasonable like the aforementioned example taking place. This keeps domain names available, yet affordable to virtually anyone looking to start up a real, genuine website.

One can, of course, choose to purchase registration of as many domain names as desired. There is no preventing someone from paying for as many website domains as they like and then re-selling the rights to use the domains at a higher rate. Some may consider this unethical but it is feasible and being done at times
